Since taking over as chief executive of Starbucks last fall, Brian Niccol has tried to come up with fixes for the many challenges facing the coffee giant.

One of his top goals: Getting coffee to customers in four minutes or less.

Four minutes might not sound so fast when you want a morning caffeine jolt, but even that goal is not as easy as it seems, Mr. Niccol told Wall Street analysts and investors in a call late Tuesday after announcing the company’s earnings results for the most recent quarter.

Negotiations between Starbucks and its union have broken down with workers calling the company’s proposals “almost laughable” and highlighting the multi-million pay package of the coffee chain’s recently appointed CEO.

Since late 2021, over 530 Starbucks stores have won union elections, representing more than 12,000 workers at the company. But talks aimed at negotiating a first union contract have stalled and the company has called the union’s proposals “not sustainable”.

A post shared on Instagram claims BBC reported that Starbucks founder Howard Schultz has warned that the company has reached a “critical point of decline” amid boycotts.

The Supreme Court on Thursday made it harder for the federal government to win court orders when it suspects a company of interfering in unionization campaigns in a case that stemmed from a labor dispute with Starbucks.
