In 2018, Teja Ravi paid $12,500 to pursue a master’s degree at the University of Farmington, which he thought was an accredited school in Michigan, he said in court documents.

But Farmington, it turned out, was fake. The Department of Homeland Security had set it up to ensnare foreign nationals who had come to the United States on student visas — a sting operation federal prosecutors revealed in 2019, the year after Ravi enrolled.

The United States had no involvement in a failed coup attempt in Bolivia last week, the White House said on Wednesday.

"The U.S. had no involvement in that," White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters in a press briefing, adding Washington had condemned the deployment of army units in Bolivia.

Finally. After more than five years locked inside HMP Belmarsh, Britain’s most secure prison, and seven years confined to the Ecuadorian embassy in London, Julian Assange can breathe some fresh, free air. It is certainly a day to celebrate, but also one to demand answers. Why – why, for heaven’s sake – has it taken so long? And what about all the others who languish in crazily overcrowded British jails?

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is free, having struck a deal with the United States Justice Department that will credit him for time served and allow him to go home. As someone who campaigned against his detention, I’m happy for him, his wife Stella, his brother Gabriel Shipton, and the other members of his inner circle who kept the case in the public eye all these years. They deserve to celebrate today.

The FBI is warning of a spike in scams targeting timeshare owners and that a large portion of these schemes are being perpetrated by Mexican drug cartels.

The schemes entail criminals targeting part-time property owners, often older Americans, and convincing them to hand over large sums of cash under false pretenses related to their timeshare properties.

FBI officials conducting a top-secret security clearance review for a longtime employee asked witnesses whether that employee was known to support former President Donald Trump, if he had expressed concerns about the COVID-19 vaccine or had attended a Second Amendment rally, according to internal memos that prompted a complaint to the Justice Department’s internal watchdog alleging political bias inside the bureau.

James Clapper, who served as director of national intelligence under President Obama, recently stood by his decision to sign on to a 2020 letter with 50 other former officials warning Hunter Biden’s laptop was Russian disinformation.

Asked by Fox News if he regretted signing the letter, which claimed the laptop had “all the earmarks” of Russian interference, Clapper said, “No.” This despite the laptop, which was abandoned at a Delaware repair shop, now being used by prosecutors in Hunter’s federal gun trial.
