Extreme wildfire warning in final day with rain to come An extreme wildfire warning covering all of Scotland is in place for a final day, with rain showers due in parts of the country on Sunday. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said crews remained at the scene of two wildfires and urged the public to "act responsibly". On the Isle of Arran mountain rescuers said pockets of fire continue to burn on Glen Rosa and have told hillwalkers to avoid the area. Meanwhile, dampening down work is continuing...

Lawmakers in both parties signaled Tuesday that they want the state to increase funding to fight and prevent wildfires – but they don’t want to tax beverage containers to do it. The House Committee on Climate, Energy and Environment voted Tuesday to forward to the House Revenue Committee a bill that proposes several new ways to fund wildfire suppression. That keeps the bill alive for further discussion ahead of a Wednesday deadline. The lawmakers didn’t give the bill an official yes or no when they sent it to the Revenue...

A helicopter is being used to dump water on a wildfire which has spread over a large area of forest in Galloway, in the south west of Scotland. Emergency services were alerted to the fire at Glen Trool at about 23:50 on Friday with two Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) crews carrying out water bombing in the area. A spokesperson for the SFRS said the fire had now moved on to the nearby Bennan and Lamachan Hills. Stewart Gibson, team leader at Galloway Mountain Rescue, said at one point...

Susan Spira called her insurer days after the Los Angeles wildfires destroyed her family’s home—only to be told her policy had been canceled. The reason: In the chaotic days after the house burned to the ground, her monthly premium hadn’t been paid.

“I nearly fell apart,” she said. Spira, a real-estate lawyer, fought back and the insurer, California’s Fair Plan, agreed her Pacific Palisades house was covered when the infernos sparked.

An amber warning of a rising risk of wildfires has been issued, as dry weather continues. Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) urged people not to use disposable barbecues or have campfires - which are banned in many areas of Dorset - and to make sure they put cigarettes out. The fire service said the amber alert, in place through the week, is the second to be issued this year. Current weather forecasts show no rain is predicted for the early part of April. Anybody who sees a...

Firefighters were still battling a 100-acre wildfire Saturday evening burning in the Wharton State Forest in Camden County, according to a statement posted on social media. According to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service, there was zero containment of the “California Branch Wildfire” as of 5 p.m., where 18 structures were under threat. The fire — near Raritan Avenue and Old Atsion Road in Waterford Township — caused multiple road closures within the state forest. Authorities did not return calls for comment. The cause of the fire is under investigation....

U.S. 1 and Card Sound Road remain open on Saturday morning after days of closures due to the South Miami-Dade brush fire. Previously, Card Sound Road had been closed from Tuesday until Friday night, and U.S. was closed intermittently. Officials have warned that intermittent closures may still occur. By Saturday morning the Florida Forestry Service said the brush fire had grown to 26,437 acres, but the blaze had been 50% contained.
