No objections were raised to the plans for the new 5G pole, which will replace an existing one on Bourges Boulevard (pictured) Plans to build a new mobile phone mast close to a children's playground have been approved. Peterborough City Council backed the application, submitted by telecoms provider Cornerstone, for a 20-metre (66ft) high pole and associated green equipment cabinets on land between Mayor's Walk and Bourges Boulevard. The new Virgin Media O2 pole, offering 5G signal, is being built due to a current one nearby being non-upgradeable. No objections...

Albuquerque, New Mexico -- home of green chiles, 300 days of sunshine, the International Balloon Fiesta... and achingly slow internet. Home internet was a two-horse race in Albuquerque for years: CenturyLink DSL and Xfinity cable. I spent decades on DSL, watching my internet speed tests march slowly up to a maximum of 20 megabits per second. Friends with faster Xfinity bemoaned the company’s customer service, data caps and prices, so I stubbornly stuck with CenturyLink. One day in late 2022, a T-Mobile 5G Home Internet gateway arrived at my house....

The Trump administration has rolled into Washington and they’re determined to shake things up. Already Trump has fired Joe Biden’s anti-business head of the Federal Trade Commission, Lina Khan, and replaced her with the more reasonable Andrew Ferguson. Ferguson, along with Trump picks like Pamela Bondi and Gail Slater at the Department of Justice, suggest the new administration plans to be fairer to American companies than its predecessor. This new attitude can’t come soon enough. Team Trump will soon have to make a decision that will directly impact how the...

The 5G mast, similar to the one pictured, would have 12 antennas Plans for a 25m (82ft) 5G mast in an East Yorkshire town have been submitted to a council. Telecoms firm Cornerstone, which is behind the application, said it was "committed to enabling best in class mobile connectivity" to more than half of the country's mobile customers. If approved, the site at Bridge Haven, 1 Saxon Way could become home to a tower with 12 antennas, four transmission dishes, and other ancillary works. No date has been set for...

I have spent years covering the wireless and home broadband companies and considerable time studying and testing a variety of networks. In the age of 5G, these two worlds have intersected, and for regular users in 2025, this is a great thing that finally brings some much-needed legitimate alternatives and competition. After spending months living with several different 5G home internet products, it's clear that they can compete with traditional broadband for most everyday tasks. It may not be faster than a multi-gig or fiber connection, but it can certainly...

Scientists ditched convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for a new, transformer-based AI architecture to better manage traffic, leading to much faster speeds in future 5G and 6G networks. Scientists are developing (AI) models that could help next-generation wireless networks such as 6G deliver faster and more reliable connections. In a that featured in December 2024’s edition of IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, researchers detailed an AI system which reduces the amount of information that needs to be sent between a device and a wireless base station — such as a cell...

While the technology in new mobiles increases, so do the prices. One way to combat this is by picking up a cheap phone that incorporates a lot of the same advancements, just without the cost associated with them. Take this Samsung Galaxy A16 -- Samsung's Galaxy A series are some of our favorite phones for people on a budget, and while it doesn't have everything the new Samsung Galaxy S25 series offers, it's still a solid device and it has just dropped to a new record low of $175. That's...

While the flashy new Samsung Galaxy S25 series is pretty tempting, you don't have to spend $800 or more to get a reliable phone in your pocket. Samsung's Galaxy A series phones are some of our absolute favorites for people on a budget, and the brand-new A16 5G just got its first discount since being released. Amazon is currently offering a modest $25 off the unlocked model, which means you can get your hands on one for just $175 right now. However, there's no telling how long this deal will...

The latest and greatest phones from Apple and Samsung start at an intimidating $800. But you don't have to break the bank to get a reliable mobile device in your pocket. Motorola makes some of our absolute favorite budget-friendly phones, and right now you can grab one at a serious discount with this Xfinity offer. The 2024 Moto G Stylus 5G already retails for a reasonable $260. And right now, activating a new $25-per-month Xfinity Now mobile line will save you $210. That puts this excellent 5G phone in your...

Plans have been approved to improve a town's 5G coverage by upgrading antennas on a water tower. The scheme for Ossett involves replacing telecommunications equipment already in place at Gawthorpe Water Tower. Cornerstone, a mobile infrastructure service services company, said the work was required to ensure residents had access to the latest technology. The Grade II listed tower was built between 1922 and 1928, but has not been used for water storage since 2006. The 180ft (55m) structure on Chidswell Lane has hosted telecommunications equipment since 1996. Cornerstone said in...
