The Minnesota congressman who unsuccessfully challenged Joe Biden in the Democratic presidential primary became the first member of their party to call on fellow US House representative Henry Cuellar to resign after federal bribery charges were unveiled against the Texas politician on Friday.

In a post on X, Dean Phillips urged Cuellar to step down, along with other politicians faced with pending criminal cases – including Biden’s presidential predecessor and Republican rival Donald Trump as well as Democratic US senator Bob Menendez.

Representative Dean Phillips announced on Wednesday that he is ending his challenge to President Joe Biden after his campaign struggled to gain traction ahead of Super Tuesday.

"I ran for Congress in 2018 to resist Donald Trump, I was trapped in the Capitol in 2021 because of Donald Trump, and I ran for President in 2024 to resist Donald Trump again - because Americans were demanding an alternative, and democracy demands options," he wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

Marianne Williamson announced Wednesday night she is ending her Democratic presidential campaign for president.

The 71-year-old author said in a video posted to social media that "it is time to suspend my campaign for the presidency."

"We did what we could to shed some light in some very darkened times. For that I will always be so grateful," Williamson said.

Her announcement came one day after she was soundly defeated by President Biden in the Nevada Democratic primary.

Williamson, who also ran for the Democratic nomination in 2020, not only got walloped by President Joe Biden on Tuesday, but she also suffered defeat to the “none of these candidates” option on the ballot. She announced she would end her campaign in an email to supporters.

In what was supposed to be a strictly celebratory event launching President Biden’s glide path to the Democratic presidential nomination here, long-shot primary challenger Dean Phillips (D-Minn.) sought to appeal to the crowd with a somber warning.

Speaking minutes before Biden was set to take the stage here at the First-in-the-Nation Dinner on Saturday, Phillips warned the gathered Democrats that Biden’s low poll numbers and weak political standing threatened to let former president Donald Trump back into the White House.
