A New York federal judge on Wednesday denied Great Britain's Prince Andrew's motion to have the civil sexual assault case against him dropped.

In the civil lawsuit, Virginia Giuffre accuses Andrew of having sex with her when she was a minor. Giuffre says disgraced financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein arranged for Andrew to sexually abuse her at Ghislaine Maxwell's home when she was 17. Andrew has repeatedly denied participating in or witnessing any sexual exploitation of minors. The prince's legal team argued that a newly-released document detailing a settlement between Epstein and Giuffre prevented her from making any claims about Andrew, but the judge disagreed. The ruling opens the door for the case to be heard later this year. Giuffre is seeking unspecified damages in the lawsuit.

Coverage of Wednesday's news, and recent coverage of Maxwell's trial and guilty verdict, has been similar across the spectrum.

Prince Andrew’s motion to get the civil case against him dropped has been dismissed by a New York federal judge.

In the civil case, Virginia Giuffre accuses the Duke of York of having sex with her when she was 17 – and therefore a minor – in 2001.

Andrew has consistently denied the allegations.

Giuffre also alleges that she was trafficked to the royal by the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell between 2000 and 2002.

Prince Andrew is to face a civil case in the US over allegations he sexually assaulted a woman when she was 17.

Virginia Giuffre is suing the prince, claiming he abused her in 2001.

His lawyers said the case should be thrown out, citing a 2009 deal she signed with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. But a New York judge ruled that the case could be heard.

The prince has consistently denied the claims. Buckingham Palace said it would not comment on an ongoing legal matter.

Prince Andrew had his bid to get a civil case which alleges he sexually assaulted Virginia Giuffre dismissed by a U.S. judge on Wednesday.

The BBC reports his lawyers said the case should be thrown out, citing a 2009 deal she signed with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. But a New York judge ruled the claim could be heard.

Prince Andrew has consistently denied the allegations.

The motion to dismiss the lawsuit was outlined in a 46-page decision by Judge Lewis A Kaplan of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
