At least 17 people have died as an outbreak of tornadoes ravished through the U.S. South and Midwest early Saturday morning, injuring multiple people across several states and leaving a path of destruction in their wake. At least 18 people have died in central and southern parts of the US after tornadoes tore through southern and central parts of the country, the BBC's US partner CBS reports.

The US states of Missouri, Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma have all reported fatalities as a result of the severe weather.

More severe weather is forecast for many of these areas on Saturday, with tornado watches issued in central Mississippi, eastern Louisiana and western Tennessee.
