President-elect Donald Trump rang the opening bell Thursday at the New York Stock Exchange after being recognized for the second time by Time magazine as its person of the year.

The honors for the businessman-turned-politician are a measure of Trump’s remarkable comeback from an ostracized former president who refused to accept his election loss four years ago to a president-elect who won the White House decisively in November.

President-elect Donald Trump, TIME’s 2024 Person of the Year, sat down for a wide-ranging interview at his Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Fla., on Nov. 25.

Over the course of the interview, Trump discussed his election victory, the economy, and the situations in Ukraine and the Middle East. He also spoke about his plans for a second term, including deporting millions of migrants and pardoning Jan. 6 defendants, as well as the future of the MAGA movement.

Does Time magazine really matter anymore? It still has a circulation of over one million, but that is one-third of what it was in 2012. Does anything it reports still resonate, or is it like a tree that collapses unheard in the solitude of the woods?

Taylor Swift is Time’s 2023 ā€œPerson of the Year,ā€ and apparently, I’m the only millennial woman on Earth who doesn’t feel seen.

OK, that’s an exaggeration. But since the announcement, it’s felt like a specific corner of Spotify Wrapped got bitten by a radioactive spider and attained superhuman powers.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been named Time's 2022 Person of the Year.

Driving the news: "This year's choice was the most clear-cut in memory," Time CEO and editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal wrote in a letter to readers.

"Whether the battle for Ukraine fills one with hope or with fear, Volodymyr Zelensky galvanized the world in a way we haven’t seen in decades," Felsenthal added.

Time magazine has named Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk as its 2021 person of the year. ā€œPerson of the Year is a marker of influence, and few individuals have had more influence than Musk on life on Earth, and potentially life off Earth too,ā€ said the magazine’s editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal. ā€œIn 2021, Musk emerged not just as the world’s richest person but also as perhaps the richest example of a massive shift in our society.ā€

Center

What does a "Center" media bias rating mean?

Sources with a Center AllSides Media Bias Ratingā„¢ either do not show much political bias or display a balance of articles with left and right perspectives.

Outlets with a Center AllSides Media Bias Ratingā„¢ fall between and  -0.99 to +0.99 on the AllSides Media Bias Meterā„¢. Note that a Center outlet may have a rating that is close to the Lean Left or Lean Right categories on our scale.

Some Center sources represent quality journalism. However, Center doesn't mean better! A Center media bias rating does not necessarily mean a source is totally unbiased, neutral, perfectly reasonable, or credible, just as Left and Right don't necessarily mean extreme, wrong, unreasonable, or not credible. AllSides does not believe people should only read outlets rated Center; we encourage people to read outlets across the political spectrum.

A media outlet with a Center rating that does not show much predictable bias overall may still omit important perspectives or run individual articles that display bias. A Center outlet may leave out valid perspectives or arguments from the left or right. While some Center outlets do an excellent job of providing balanced or unbiased journalism, AllSides believes we shouldn't consume media only from Center outlets. By reading only Center outlets, we may still encounter bias or omission of important issues and perspectives. For this reason, it is important to consume a balanced news diet.

AllSides Bias Meter categories are as follows:

  • Left: -6.00 to -3.00
  • Lean Left: -2.99 to -1.00
  • Center: -0.99 to +0.99
  • Lean Right: +1.00 to +2.99
  • Right: +3.00 to +6.00

Note: Only media outlets that have undergone a full AllSides Media Bias Auditā„¢ and have qualified for the AllSides Certified Balanced Awardā„¢ are endorsed by AllSides as truly balanced journalism. For more about our Balance Certification, or to hire us for a bias audit, click here. Not all Center-rated sources are Certified Balanced, but all Certified Balanced Sources are Center rated.
