On Tuesday at 7:26 p.m. the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning in effect until 8 p.m. for DeKalb and Jackson counties. "At 7:26 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Pisgah, or 12 miles east of Scottsboro, moving east at 25 mph," says the weather service. "Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely." At least 16 tornadoes were reported in six states overnight into Tuesday morning. The twisters were reported in Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Tennessee and South Dakota. The most destructive storm appeared to have been in Barnsdall, Oklahoma, north of Tulsa, where major damage was reported. In addition to tornadoes, 4-inch hail, about the size of a softball, was reported in Kansas. Millions of people in the central United States are bracing for strong storms this week, including large tornadoes and strong winds that could hit multiple areas on Monday evening. Much of Oklahoma and parts of Kansas are at the greatest risk of bad weather, including areas in Oklahoma, such as Sulphur and Holdenville, on Monday, officials with the National Weather Service (NWS) warned. Both the Plains and Midwest have been hammered by tornadoes this spring....

The National Weather Service is predicting dangerous thunderstorms Monday in the Plains that could unleash destructive, long-track tornadoes. The zone from central Oklahoma to southern Kansas is under a rare Level 5 out of 5 ā€œhigh riskā€ of violent, tornado-producing thunderstorms. The high-risk zone includes Oklahoma City and Norman, Okla., but threatening storms could erupt from Texas to South Dakota and Iowa.

Several rounds of strong to severe storms will be possible in parts of Alabama on Tuesday afternoon through early Thursday morning, according to forecasters. The strongest storms could have winds capable of knocking down trees and power lines and hail. The storms expected on Wednesday into Thursday could also generate a tornado.
