On Wednesday at 1:07 a.m. an updated tornado warning was issued by the National Weather Service in effect until 1:30 a.m. for Allegheny, Beaver and Washington counties. A tornado watch is in effect for the Louisville metro area until 3 a.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service announced Tuesday evening. The watch also includes counties in central and western Kentucky as well as southern Indiana. More than 4.3 million people are in the affected area, according to the weather service. The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch Monday afternoon for Douglas County and the surrounding areas.

The watch was issued around 3:45 p.m. and is scheduled to last until 11 p.m. Severe storms are likely to produce hail up to 3 inches in diameter and winds up to 80 mph, according to the National Weather Service in Topeka.

Rain is expected to begin just after 5 p.m. with more than one inch of rain forecast throughout the evening.
