FBI Director Christopher Wray announced that he will step down from the helm of the federal law enforcement agency ahead of President-elect Donald Trump’s administration. "After weeks of careful thought, I’ve decided the right thing for the Bureau is for me to serve until the end of the current Administration in January and then step down," Wray said during a town hall on Wednesday, announcing his resignation. "My goal is to keep the focus on our mission – the indispensable work you’re doing on behalf of the American people...

Chinese hackers are developing the "ability to physically wreak havoc on our critical infrastructure at a time of its choosing," FBI director Christopher Wray said this week.

He added that the hackers are waiting "for just the right moment to deal a devastating blow."

The hacking campaign, known as Volt Typhoon, has embedded itself successfully in several American critical infrastructure companies that include telecommunications, energy and water, and others, he said.

WASHINGTON — Utah's four Republican representatives were split over a vote on Friday to reauthorize and reform a key U.S. surveillance tool after what Rep. John Curtis called a "gnarly" debate between House colleagues. The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act outlines how U.S. officials can gather foreign intelligence. Congress has been focused on Section 702, which gives the government power to surveil electronic communications of noncitizens abroad without warrants.

A suspected member of a “virulently anti-Western” terrorist group was turned loose by federal authorities after being apprehended crossing the US-Mexico border and, later, freed again when he went before an immigration judge, according to a report. Customs and Border Protection agents apprehended and released Mohammad Kharwin, 48, after he illegally entered the US near San Ysidro, Calif., in March of 2023, despite suspicions the Afghan national was on the FBI’s terrorist watchlist, according to NBC News.

Jeffrey Stiffarm, president of the Fort Belknap Indian Community in Montana, said he didn’t want to name the fellow leader who backed out, but he said the threat seemed real and credible. “One thing that we really seem to overlook all the time is the threats, the...

FBI director Christopher Wray bemoaned the “uneven” support Mexico has given US law enforcement to help prevent dangerous cartels and deadly drugs from entering the country.

Wray testified on Thursday before a House Appropriations subcommittee where he pleaded for more cooperation on various issues, saying the US needs “much, much more” help from south of the border.

FBI Director Christopher Wray on Thursday said the Mexican government has been “uneven” in its assistance to U.S. law enforcement against fentanyl trafficking, agreeing with GOP critics of the Biden administration. “We need much more from Mexico,” Wray said in a House Appropriations subcommittee hearing on Thursday. He added that the Mexican response to fentanyl trafficking has been a “mixed bag,” describing a differing experience between Mexican law enforcement agencies and against different cartels in the country. “There are individual instances that are bright spots.
