Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy before birth. Related topics include women’s issues, healthcare, and religion.

In 2022, 61% of Americans said abortion should be legal in all or most cases, and 37% said it should be illegal. Also, 86% of Republicans, 95% of Democrats, and 93% of Independents supported abortion when a mother's life is endangered.

Generally, Democrats push for protecting abortion rights and expanding abortion access; Republicans push for tighter restrictions on abortion rights and less abortion access.

Corporate media love a good crime — especially when that crime aids their mission to advance their political agenda. When it comes to harms that counteract their preferred narratives, such as the abuse and exploitation that wrack the abortion and fertility industries, however, press outlets are indefensibly silent. The media’s deliberate ignorance of certain victims dates back decades, such as when infamous Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell was arrested, tried, and eventually convicted for murdering born-alive babies in 2013.

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Birth and fertility rates have long been a major talking point in the United States which, along with many major economies, is facing population decline. America's fertility rate is now projected to average 1.6 births per woman over the next three decades, according to the Congressional Budget Office's latest forecast released in 2025. This is well below the level of 2.1 births required to maintain a stable population without immigration. But the...

Planned Parenthood plans to close two rural centers in Utah, a quarter of its locations in the state, after the Trump administration froze federal funds boosting the organization. The closures come after the Trump administration withheld millions in Title X funding from Planned Parenthood and other organizations on March 31. The Department of Health and Human Services said it is reviewing the funding to ensure it is not going to organizations providing services to illegal immigrants and to investigate concerns money may be flowing to entities violating civil rights laws...

In this episode, we begin with the somber news of Pope Francis's passing at age 88, as the Vatican releases the official cause of death, marking the end of an era for the Roman Catholic Church. Shifting to a different legacy, we discuss a memorial resolution honoring Cecile Richards, the former president of Planned Parenthood, and the notable omission of any reference to abortion. In New York City, a woman's legal battle unfolds after discovering a paternity test error led to her decision to have an abortion, igniting conversations about...

OKLAHOMA CITY — Selling or delivering an unprescribed medication such as RU-486, also known as mifepristone, to induce an abortion would become a felony under a bill that may soon become law in Oklahoma. House Bill 1168 , which passed through the Senate’s Health and Human Services Committee on Monday, would make it a felony for anyone other than a prescribing physician to “traffic” any drug known to be abortion-inducing, if it’s also known that the person receiving the drug intends to use it to induce an abortion. The bill,...

Bills that would have amended Florida’s six-week abortion ban to allow the procedure in more cases of risk for the mother are likely to die unheard this year. GOP leaders in the Legislature have declined so far to schedule hearings for the legislation (SB 288, HB 1573), which would have amended the current law so women could access abortion if it would prolong their lives or prevent morbidity of a major body part, including “substantial impairment” of their fertility. Florida law currently allows for post-six-week abortions only to save the...

Wade, conservative judges and politicians argued that the court was to blame for the polarization of the abortion issue in the first place. Roe, the argument went, ruled out compromises that might have cooled off the debate. And nearly three years ago, when the Supreme Court undid the right to choose abortion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the justices picked...

Catholic businesses may not be forced to subsidize abortions or fertility treatments, ruled federal Judge Daniel Traynor, a Donald Trump appointee to the District Court of North Dakota, on Tuesday. Traynor granted 9,000 Catholic businesses a permanent injunction against an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission rule requiring employers to provide abortion-related leave and other practices contrary to these businesses’ religious beliefs.

Montana asks justices to revive parental-consent law for minors to get an abortion The Petitions of the Week column highlights some of the cert petitions recently filed in the Supreme Court. A list of all petitions we’re watching is available here. Since the Supreme Court overruled a federal constitutional right to abortion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the fight over reproductive rights has shifted to state courts. This week, we highlight petitions asking the court to consider, among other things, whether to overturn a ruling by the Montana...
