BOGOTÁ (AP) — U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is visiting Colombia on Thursday as part of a tour of three Latin American nations to discuss immigration, crime and deportation. Her trip comes amid a souring in relations between the Trump administration and the Colombian government – long the United States’ closest ally in the region. Tensions between the two countries rose in January over accepting flights of immigrants deported from the U.S. Noem was set to meet with Colombia’s leftist leader, the country’s foreign minister and police to discuss...

Federal immigration authorities detained a Turkish graduate student at Tufts University, adding to the list of international students targeted by the Trump administration.

Rumeysa Ozturk, a Ph.D. student, was taken into custody Tuesday night outside her off-campus apartment building in Somerville, Mass., according to Tufts and court records. She was on her way to meet friends and break her fast for Ramadan when she was detained, her lawyer said.

Local officials, teachers, priests and even private citizens in Louisiana could face obstruction of justice or maleficence in office charges for not cooperating with federal immigration authorities under a bill authored by state Sen. Jay Morris, a West Monroe Republican. Morris’ Senate Bill 15 is part of a broader national push by Republicans to force local governments and even private citizens to provide the Trump administration assistance in its mass deportation plan. Gov. Jeff Landry has cooperated with federal officials in turning the state into a hub for detention camps...

The Department of Homeland Security detained a Turkish Tufts University student Tuesday for allegedly engaging in “activities in support of Hamas.”

Rumeysa Ozturk, 30, was stopped on the street by DHS agents in plain clothes, and her arrest was captured on a street security camera.

A doctoral student from the University of Alabama has been detained by federal immigration authorities, according to the school.

Alireza Doroudi, an Iranian national studying mechanical engineering, was taken into custody by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers at his off-campus home in Tuscaloosa around 5 a.m. Tuesday, UA’s student paper The Crimson White reported.

University officials confirmed that a graduate student had been detained by federal immigration authorities, but did not confirm the identity, citing privacy reasons.

US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem arrived in El Salvador Wednesday to tour the notoriously hellish prison housing alleged gang members deported by the Trump administration — and she’s expected to ask the Central American country’s president to make more room.

Noem, 53, arrived at the Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT), where 250 suspected Tren de Aragua and MS-13 gang members were shipped from the US by President Trump earlier this month.

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. A federal appeals court panel denied President Donald Trump's request to have a restraining order overturned Wednesday, which stopped his administration from deporting suspected Venezuelan gang members without a court hearing. The appeals court ruling doesn't completely stop Trump's ability to deport people, he just can't use the Alien Enemy's Act (AEA) as the justification with regards to the plaintiffs listed in the case.
