There is a constant onslaught of polling data every day from the 24 hours news cycle. It is overwhelming. And ridiculous.

Poll results are very different depending on the source. Above is an overview of how the electoral maps look now, showing the AllSides Bias Rating (ABR) by each.

Not surprisingly, the poll analysis most favorable to the President comes from the news source that has the strongest left bias rating, The Huffington Post.

It is always fun and revealing to see the different headlines for the same event, especially a big event loaded with politics like the first Presidential debate. I picked prominent headlines on the front pages:

We frequently expose bias just by showing how two different news organizations cover the same story. What is perhaps even more important, particularly when you consider how it impacts public discourse and how well we are informed before Election Day, is when news is not covered at all or buried.

This week had a great example of that: Al Qaeda Involved in Libya Attack

Perhaps you’ve noticed the growing tendency of media outlets to present themselves as the Zeus on Mount Olympus you should go to for everything – your “most trusted" source.

In the process, some outlets seek to build business by having an editorial viewpoint that guarantees a large, like-minded following. Sometimes the bias is obvious, other times subtle or unintentional.

What concerns me is that we are being convinced to rely on one biased source and exclude other points of view. That is frightening.

After watching every night of both party conventions, what do I feel? Mostly exhaustion. No wonder we all need someone to sort through all of this chatter for us - there is no way average people with busy lives can spend all of this time listening and evaluating both major parties and candidates.

But that is also why we do this: to cut through the noise so people can quickly see, and evaluate for themselves, the different perspectives around what is going on.

After many late nights watching the Republican National Convention (RNC), I don't know if I should thank Tivo for letting me easily watch it later, along with the US Open, or curse it for keeping me up late night after night.

Why did I do that? To see what actually happened BEFORE the media covered it.

The contrasts in how different media cover the exact same event are HUGE. AllSides exposes those differences so you can get a better idea of what is really going on – and decide for yourself.
