We had to solve a problem.

AllSides is dedicated to delivering news with source bias transparency. But, we often find interesting articles (on hot topics) for which we have limited source bias info.

This means that some of our ratings end up being more preliminary than others. Plus, all our ratings evolve as bias shifts or new data is revealed.

So here's our solution: Bias Confidence Levels

An example of our new Bias Confidence Level feature is shown below.

We love dialog. It’s a healthy part of a great democracy.

But, arguments are rarely healthy for digestion or holiday enjoyment.

Since many Americans will break bread with someone holding opposing political views this season, I spoke with Heather Sutherland, licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, about what keeps the good feelings flowing and the mashed potatoes on the table and out of Aunt Opinionated's hair. She helped me put together these three takeaways.

Contrast in news coverage is never more obvious than at election time.

For example, after this week's elections, we noticed that the Right news sources typically led with Obamacare in their analysis, the Left talked about a rejection of the Tea Party and austerity, and we even saw a Center headline declare Center the winner.

First, a little celebration for our information revolution! We are excited to report that AllSides.com has seen massive traffic growth over the last several months, reaching more than 1 million monthly views this month.

Next, a little bit of perspective whiplash. This week, we saw wildly varied takes on the ongoing Healthcare Exchanges rollout. Here are just a few examples of that.

Snippet from the Left

Is the addiction to being the first to deliver a news story killing the quality and reliability of our news organizations?

CBS and NBC both incorrectly identified the Navy Yard shooter in tweets this week. “NBC News: we are now NOT reporting name of shooter; retracting that report. deleting those tweets,” tweeted an NBC News reporter later.

Something similar happened when the Sandy Hook shooting story was breaking - news outlets named the wrong Lanza as the shooter.

With the eyes of the world on Syria and the US, many headlines simply update us on what is happening at this moment (e.g., Kerry cites evidence of chemical weapon use in Syria; Obama asks congress to authorize military action).

But we want to know more, and we're guessing you do too. Choices loom that could affect us all.

That's why AllSides has been collecting opinions, background, and context about Syria from across the political spectrum. We present a collection of those stories for you here.
