ABC News on Tuesday blurred the lines between the network and the DNC talking points, cheering the “big win,” “big victory” for Joe Biden after the passage of a new spending bill. The journalists at Good Morning America could barely contain their excitement.
Guest co-host Gio Benitez hyped, “We're going to turn now to a big victory at the White House. President Biden is set to sign the massive health, climate and tax bill into law later today. Now this is the largest climate investment in U.S. history.”
An on-screen graphic painted the same picture: “President Biden’s Big Victory: Set to Sign Inflation Reduction Act Into Law.” In case you weren’t sure how to feel about spending an additional $740 billion on climate and health care, Cecilia Vega explained, “It’s such a big win for President Biden, he's actually interrupting his vacation and flying back to White House today just for this bill signing.”
Equating Democrats “saying” something with the truth, he continued:
Listen to this: Some $370 billion. This includes tax credits for solar panels, electric vehicles. And look, Democrats say that by the end of the decade, these incentives will cut greenhouse gas by 40 percent from those 2005 levels. The big question right now? This is paid for by new taxes on large companies and stepped-up IRS enforcement for the rich. Look, the White House is calling this a once-in-a-generation investment.
