The Lincoln Journal Star is a daily newspaper that serves Lincoln, Nebraska, It is the most widely read newspaper in Lincoln and the second-largest in Nebraska (after the Omaha World-Herald).
The National Assessment of Educational Progress taken by about 8,000 students statewide last year showed Nebraska students are continuing to underperform in reading, with scores at all levels dropping by several points in 2024, but remaining competitive with other states. The test, also known as the Nation’s Report Card, is administered to fourth and eighth grade students across the nation every few years, and assesses students’ proficiency in both math and reading.
