- Back in February, President Trump declared a national emergency on immigration, identifying up to $8.1 billion in other government accounts for potential wall construction. This included $3.6 billion from military construction projects, which until recently were awaiting approval from the Defense Department.
- Last week, on September 3rd, 2019, Defense Secretary Mark Esper approved the use of $3.6 billion, previously meant to fund 127 military construction projects, to build 175 miles of fencing along the US-Mexico border.
- Projects facing cuts are located in 23 states, 19 countries, and three U.S. territories. $1.1 billion of the cuts come from projects in the continental US.
