From the Right: A WPA poll tallied a surge in support for DeSantis over Trump in key states. The National Review Editorial Board called for Republicans to “give up on the idea that Trump is a winner,” blaming him for the party’s midterm disappointments. Former house speaker Newt Gingrich (R) warned a bitter primary battle could lead the party to “tear itself apart.” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) voiced support for Trump, tweeting after the announcement that the former president would be “hard to beat.”

From the Left: The New York Times Editorial Board believes a second Trump term would lack “whatever guardrails were in place during the first,” calling for a robust Republican primary to elevate candidates who have “demonstrated a commitment to the rule of law.” A writer in Mother Jones (Left Bias) wrote that Trump’s return to the White House would bring about the “potential evisceration of the federal bureaucracy.” A writer in the Washington Post (Lean Left Bias) stated, “only a fool would count Trump out.”
