The Texas primary elections were held on March 1. Candidates who did not receive over 50% of the vote will face a runoff against the second-place candidate on May 24. The general election will be held on November 8.

Incumbent Gov. Greg Abbott won 66.4% of the Republican primary vote with 1,294,510 votes. Former U.S. congressman Beto O'Rourke won 91.4% of the Democratic primary vote with 980,153 votes (Data from The Texas Tribune, Lean Left bias).

Our friends at guides.vote have built helpful breakdowns of each 2022 Texas gubernatorial candidate's major policy positions and stances for their 2022 campaign. View the guide here.

Republican candidates across the United States are campaigning on anti-transgender policies to rile up their base, turning the 2022 midterm election season into what at times feels like a nonstop deluge of anti-trans messaging. Ultimately, there’s a lot on the line for trans rights ahead of Tuesday’s vote.

Days after being elected Texas governor in 2014, Greg Abbott called a staff meeting to discuss his vision for leading the state.

“Our number-one priority as public servants is to follow the law,” Abbott, who served as Texas attorney general before he was elected, told staffers, according to his autobiography. Adhering to the law was “a way to ignore the pressure of politics, polls, money and lobbying.”

The race for Texas governor is a battle over two visions of America. Can Democrat Beto O'Rourke harness growing support for gun control and abortion rights to win - or will concerns over crime and immigration return Republican Greg Abbott to office?

Beto O'Rourke stood in the middle of a music hall in Houston, Texas, surrounded by cheering supporters.

He had been introduced by Hamilton musical creator Lin Manuel Miranda and can count pop star Harry Styles and actor Matthew Broderick among his backers.

Early voting starts Oct. 24 and ends Nov. 4. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 8. Elections officials must receive your mail-in ballot by 7 p.m. on Election Day if the carrier envelope is not postmarked. If your ballot is postmarked by 7 p.m. on Election Day, the county can receive it until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Former President Donald Trump dropped his biggest hint so far that he may run again in 2024 at a rally in Texas, telling his supporters “I will probably have to do it again.”

“I ran twice. I won twice. I did much better the second time than I did before,” Trump said Saturday evening in Robstown, Texas, where he spoke in an effort to boost GOP candidates in the Lone Star State.

Former President Trump told = supporters at a rally in Robstown, Texas, on Saturday that he "will probably have" to run for president again in 2024.

Why it matters: It's a strong hint of his intentions for 2024 amid speculation he may announce his election plans in November.

If he does announce a run in 2024, it could set up a rematch against President Biden, who said in an interview on Saturday that he intends to seek a second term but he had not made a formal decision yet.

Former President Donald Trump is holding a rally in Texas two days before early voting starts for the November election.

The rally will be Saturday in Robstown, outside Corpus Christi on the Gulf Coast. Republicans are targeting districts in the area as they try to take over South Texas’ congressional seats.
