Nearly two years after a federal judge said that Louisiana’s congressional map diluted Black voting power, Black voters are at risk of voting for a second time in an election under a plan that likely violates the Voting Rights Act.

In response to the judge’s ruling, the state’s Republican legislature had created a second majority-African American district in the state’s six district congressional plan. But now, a different federal court has said that adding the second majority-Black district is unconstitutional.

Fox & Friends co-host Lawrence Jones spoke to Michaelah Montgomery, a grassroots activist in Atlanta, Georgia as well as a supporter of former President Donald Trump. When asked on Wednesday what drew her and other young, Black voters to Trump, Montgomery stated that “they feel like he’s honest.”

A new poll has found that less than 40 percent of young Black voters are motivated to vote in November’s election. 

The poll, conducted by In Our Own Voice: National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda with PerryUndem and released on Monday, found that just 38 percent of Black voters between the ages of 18 and 29 said they are “almost certain” to vote in the fall. This number is in stark contrast to 59 percent of all respondents who said the same. 

Six white former law-enforcement officers are being sentenced in Mississippi federal court this week for two incidents of abuse against civilians, including the torture of two Black men—a scandal that has shocked a state with a history of racial violence.

Michael Corey Jenkins and Eddie Terrell Parker sat on the front row of a packed courtroom Tuesday and watched as a federal judge handed down yearslong sentences to two of the white former Mississippi law enforcement officers who tortured the two Black men last year in a brutal attack that began on the basis of race.

After a neighbor complained about them staying in a white woman’s home, the Black men were tortured by people who had sworn an oath to serve and protect them.

Black members of Congress are hoping that Joe Biden will use his State of the Union Speech to speak directly to the concerns of African Americans who are feeling lukewarm about this reelection bid.

There’s not necessarily a secret formula that will win those voters over, some members say, but he at least needs to explain in clear terms what he’s accomplished for them.

Former President Donald Trump claimed that Black people like him because he has faced discrimination in the legal system, which is something they can relate to.

"I got indicted a second time and a third time and a fourth time, and a lot of people said that that’s why the Black people like me, because they have been hurt so badly and discriminated against, and they actually viewed me as I’m being discriminated against," he said.

A Black high school student’s monthslong punishment by his Texas school district for refusing to change his hairstyle does not violate a new state law that prohibits race-based hair discrimination, a judge ruled on Thursday.

Darryl George, 18, has not been in his regular Houston-area high school classes since Aug. 31 because the district, Barbers Hill, says the length of his hair violates its dress code.
