A Texas judge struck a blow to the state’s newly adopted CROWN Act on Thursday, ruling that a public school district can continue to punish a Black teen who wears his hair in locs.

In a trial that lasted just a few hours, Judge Chap Cain III ruled that Barbers Hill Independent School District did not violate the CROWN Act when it subjected Darryl George, 18, to in-school suspensions and off-site instruction for nearly six months.

How does a person who isn’t black think about Black History Month? With respect? With reverence? With guilt? Curiosity? Indifference?

For millions of people across the country, February is a time to reflect on the contributions black Americans have made to our rich national history. But for a handful of educators, the first week of this month is dedicated to amplifying year-round efforts to introduce the values of the Black Lives Matter movement into K-12 classrooms.

One of those principles is to "disrupt the Western prescribed nuclear family structure." But rebuilding—not destroying—the black family should be the top priority for people who claim to care about race and equality.

Confession: This column was originally going to be a downer. Perhaps it would have had a headline that said something like, “Is this the last Black History Month?”

Charlie Kirk fanned the flames of racial controversy on his show recently when, for some inexplicable reason, he decided to make the asinine comment that he gets frightened and has concerns whenever he sees black pilots. He was trying to make a point about the Left’s racial hierarchy initiatives, such as the diversity, equity, and inclusion movement, or DEI. For anyone unfamiliar, it’s an extremist left-wing objective that promotes the advancement of people based on skin color, regardless of merit. 

Dexter Scott King, the youngest son of Martin Luther King Jr., died Monday morning after a “valiant battle with prostate cancer,” the King Center announced.

Dexter’s wife, Leah Weber King, wrote in a statement that Dexter “transitioned peacefully in his sleep at home with me in Malibu.” She said her husband of 11 years “gave it everything and battled this terrible disease until the end.”

“As with all the challenges in his life, he faced this hurdle with bravery and might,” she wrote.

A Texas school district superintendent defended the continued suspension of a Black student for his hairstyle in a full-page newspaper ad, paid for by an education foundation.

Darryl George has been suspended repeatedly by the Barbers Hill Independent School District for his loc hairstyle. The teen's family filed a federal civil rights lawsuit saying the punishment violates the CROWN Act, an acronym for “Create a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair,” which became law in Texas in September.

Mass immigration, and primarily illegal immigration, disproportionately makes black Americans poorer by reducing wages and crowding out the workforce, the United States Civil Rights Commission detailed in a briefing report from 2010.

The bombshell report, conducted in 2008 and published in 2010 by the U.S. Civil Rights Commission, interviewed several experts and researchers reviewing the impact of mass immigration on black American communities.

Had he lived, Martin Luther King Jr. would be 95 years old this year. The tragic brevity of his life, cut short by an assassin in 1968, remains a testament to the enduring impact he made during his short time on earth.

The U.S. has a proven ability to overcome in times of crisis when we call Americans together around a common national vision. This tradition goes back to the origin of our nation, when the 13 colonies overcame their political and social divisions to secure freedom for future generations of Americans.

In the following decades Americans overspread a vast continent. They reunited a badly divided nation after a terrible civil war. They endured and won two devastating world wars. And they finally addressed the country’s legacy of slavery and racism.
