Former President Donald Trump has filed a countersuit against writer E. Jean Carroll for defamation.
Key Details: Trump is alleging that Carroll falsely accused him of rape after a New York jury found him liable of sexually abused her. Her comments were made on CNN (Lean Left), a day after that verdict.
Key Quote: "Due to [Carroll]’s repeated falsehoods and defamatory statements made against [Trump], [Trump] has been the subject of significant harm to his reputation, which, in turn, has yielded an inordinate amount of damages sustained as a result," the filing said.
For Context: On May 9, a nine-member civil jury found Trump liable for sexual battery and defaming Carroll, and granted her $5 million in damages. A second defamation trial is set for January 2024, and stems from Trump's recent insistence that he had "no idea who this woman is."
