The House Jan. 6 select committee on Monday sent letters to three House Republicans that asked for their testimony amid its ongoing investigation.

Evidence has suggested that Reps. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas), Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) and Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) have information regarding efforts to overturn the 2020 election. Immediately rejecting the request, Jackson denied any connection with the Jan. 6 riots and labeled the committee's agenda as "malicious and not substantive." The panelists planned to question Jackson about the encrypted text messages that said he needed protection during the riot from members of the Oath Keepers, an extremist militia group. Brooks and Biggs have not yet responded to the committee's requests. Brooks was to be asked about the public claim he made about Trump asking him to "rescind the 2020 elections," while Biggs was to be questioned about intelligence that suggests he was involved in meetings where lawmakers discussed strategies to overturn the presidential election.

Coverage across the political spectrum was similar and avoided speculation. Left-and center-rated outlets were more likely to emphasize how the first three Republican lawmakers asked to voluntarily testify before the committee notably refused.
