Former presidential candidate Andrew Yang announced his Forward Party would form a new political party with two other groups, the Renew America Movement and the Serve America Movement.
The new party, also called Forward, plans to run candidates in 15 states by the end of 2022 and all 50 states by 2024. In a blog post, Yang wrote, “We are demonstrating that we can generate the resources necessary to elevate and elect candidates around the country with the support of tens of thousands of Americans and millions of dollars of grassroots funding.”
In a Washington Post (Lean Left bias) op-ed, Yang and leaders from the other groups argued that Forward would combat threats like “political extremism” and “polarization” by representing “the moderate, common-sense majority” instead of “catering to the fringes.” They said Forward would be the first “open” party serving “Americans of all stripes.” The Renew America Movement includes several former Republican officials and was co-founded by Miles Taylor, the formal Trump administration official who claimed to be the author of a Trump-era anonymous New York Times (Lean Left bias) op-ed. The Serve America Movement is made up of Democrats, Independents and Republicans.
Coverage was widespread and mostly balanced across the spectrum. Some voices dismissed the third party, saying it would go “nowhere.”
